Epidemiology
I obtained a PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Basel, Switzerland. My expertise in epidemiology includes:
I was an Assistent Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Hacettepe Institute of Public Health and worked as a scientist at Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, Swiss TPH. Based on my experience in teaching epidemiology and conducting epidemiological research, I create tailor-made capacity building courses on data/statistical literacy and epidemiology as per beneficiaries’ needs and partners’ requirements.
As an example, I conducted a course on data/statistical literacy and basic epidemiology for the team of Nirengi Association in Turkey. I also provided consultancy on improvements to the Nirengi’s Child Abuse Helpline data base. Please see the “short-term consultancies” for the details.
I have designed and directed several research projects using qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods. I had several teaching appointments in the field of epidemiology.
I have been working as an external researcher in a TÜBİTAK funded research project, where researchers with specific expertise are accepted as an external researcher. I was asked to join the team because of my experience in research design and risk communication.
I am a steering committee member of the International Working Group Task Force Health Disaster Management: Evaluation and Research in the Utstein Style. The task of the group is: developing assessment tools for health disaster management, creating standards and frameworks for disaster research.
I am the author of the book chapters on disaster epidemiology. Please see the “previous employment” and “Full publication List” for the details of research activities.
